It's too early to see what impact the BTN money has on UMCP & Rutgers..
Both schools were operating in the red. I expect the increased TV network revenue to slowly improve all their athletic programs. Maryland is renovating Cole Field House. Other Big 10 schools are using the TV revenue to build extravagant football facilities to draw in the recruits. Iowa has a nice one.
Right now, Maryland is no better off being in the Big 10 than they were in the ACC, but let's see how things look ten years down the road. Maryland knew that joining Big 10 wouldn't solve all their financial problems over night. From all that I've read, Maryland will be making as much as $5 million more per year in the Big 10 than they would be making in the ACC. If that becomes a reality, UMCP will be making $50 million more each decade than their former ACC mates. There's also the possibility that the ACC may bring in close to the amount that the Big 10 schools are making from TV. Some at Maryland believe that they'll have to make at least $4 million more per year to justify their move to the Big 10. Only time will tell if they made the right move. Maryland believes that they have but the positive results may take 5 to 10 years for the alumni and fans to see. Right now, some of their fans are skeptical because things appear to be no different than their days in the ACC. [Post edited by Old Line Hokie at 06/16/2016 11:18AM]
